So vote out the corrupt leeches. Ignore the cliched speeches. We’ll correct the contract breaches of the White House Fraternity.

Freefall, A True Story

The Book of the Week is “Freefall, A True Story” by William Hoffer and Marilyn Mona Hoffer, published in 1989. The authors told a suspenseful story of a July 1983 Air Canada Boeing 767 flight that went awry. The authors caught the human interest element of the story as well, revealing biographical information on the passengers so that the reader would relate to and sympathize with the characters.

“Four more insistent beeps sounded, disrupting conversation. The cockpit was assailed by eerie warning buzzers and foreboding color-coded lights alerting them to a series of problems escalating in severity.”

As is well known, commercial aviation is an industry especially fraught with danger. There are always multiple causes for disasters. Flight 143 ran into trouble for the following reasons:

The Boeing model 767 had been launched only three months before, so workers had yet to work out all its kinks and update its three different flight manuals.
The plane’s different flight-related measurements used a mix of the metric system and the imperial system, so there was confusion, and there were miscalculations.
The Canadian agency that regulated commercial aviation allowed cockpit-visitors, who might be a distraction to the plane crew.
There were miscommunications among the pilots, the flight staff, and a myriad of workers who maintained the plane.
Air traffic controllers were still using the outdated system of “primary radar” at Winnipeg’s airport.
A delay on the first leg of the flight due to a mechanical problem, a malfunctioning of the plane’s movie projector in the rear cabin, and undercooked food, resulted in additional stresses for the pilots, crew and passengers.
The airline’s workers were always under time-pressure every flight, as time is money. Their employer lost money every time there was a delay, so they rushed their assessment of the situation.
The airline’s cost-cutting measures meant two pilots had to do the work of three. The workers who were tasked with different jobs spoke English and / or French so there could easily have been something lost in translation, and cultural clashes.

Flying in style to see his girlfriend’s band and we wonder where he is. And it infuriates us. He lies about everything. It’s high time, the hour’s at hand, for the prez to let him go. And it’s a real pity, his behavior reflects the status quo.

A year and a half has come and gone and we’ve seen his shenanigans. Most FBI agents really resent his presence there. It’s interagency rivalry with the DOJ every day for luxury perks and frat-boy play. It’s worth the risk. He lives for today. He doesn’t CARE.

The irony goes, he can’t see his OWN crimes. For a long time, he’s targeting the New YORK Times. More truth will out, it always will. But Americans will foot the bill. He parties hard.

The World I See

The Book of the Week is “The World I See, Curiosity, Exploration, and Discovery at the Dawn of AI” by Dr. Fei-Fei Li, published in 2025. In this wordy volume, the author described her professional and personal lives from the 1980’s through the decades of greatly accelerated computing power to date.

Born in Beijing, China, Li grew up in Chengdu. She and her mother moved to Parsippany, NJ to join her father in 1992. Because she and her parents were immigrants, they were grateful for opportunities to get educated and work in a free society. Thus, they weren’t self-absorbed attention-whores with a sense of entitlement. They worked extremely hard, and still suffered financial hardships. Of course, they got a few lucky breaks that allowed Li to participate in a tech startup.

Meanwhile, AI software can replace the inefficient way the census of the United States is taken. Nowadays, data on people’s cars, indicate all kinds of detailed demographics, including the political leanings of their drivers. On the other hand, there are American citizens who do not own or lease or drive a car. So other data sources would need to count those individuals.

There exist other potential dangers in the new Orwellian economy; fatal ones! A hacker could change just a few pixels of what a self-driving car sees so that it misreads a street sign and causes an accident.

The author became interested in a neural network in which software categorizes and describes graphics, in words. Unfortunately, in the single-digit 2000’s, Li and her colleagues couldn’t compete with other researchers who had monster-sized resources, such as those at Google.

Incognito

The Book of the Week is “Incognito, The Secret Lives of the Brain” by David Eagleman, published in 2011. This hodgepodge of a volume jumped from one subject to another on brain function in connection with: legal issues, technological advances in brain-screening, materialism and reductionism. The author argued that those last two ideologies will never fully explain the world’s most complicated neurological problems because humans are just too complicated.

The term “cognitive reserve” means multiple redundancies of brain power. One who seeks brain challenges throughout his or her life, possesses more of it than someone who doesn’t. An autopsy of the former kind of person might show physical manifestations of senility, but he or she might have had no behavioral symptoms of senility when they were alive.

Someone with “anosognosia” has delusional thinking. He truly believes he’s doing what he’s doing. As is well known, a world leader who has anosognosia can be dangerous.

AI statistics-software (hereinafter referred to as “AI”) in any subject-area of life (including brain-related ones) can generate credible evidence that there is a physical cause for a suspect’s behavior. In the future, this will result in more creative legal arguments to defend criminal-suspects. Physical causes can include genetic mutation, stroke, tumor, or chemical imbalance in the brain, or combination thereof.

Traditionally, elected officials in law enforcement had meted out punishment or ordered rehabilitation for a perpetrator, pursuant to the views of political donors. BUT, the predictive power of AI is ushering in a new era of sentencing-guidelines (that proves what works in reducing recidivism) based on numerical data rather than on the biased, unduly-influenced opinions of psychiatrists and parole-board members.

However, there is the danger that a hacker, or disgruntled or unduly-influenced employee could still lie with statistics, for their own selfish purposes.

It’s deja vu all over again: A skeleton crew of rich white men currently runs the show in the United States, just as it did in colonial times. Here’s a song about the individual (Trump) who is clogging the courts with legal cases that will get him the form of government he desires.

Tried to vote in a school, in the primary. Well, I was stopped by an agent of ICE, and was asked for ID, and was asked for ID. AI intrusive and oversold, but it’s here to stay, it’s here to stay. TO-talitarian, totalitarian dreamin’, by the GOP.
